Speech team places first at two tournaments
The Muskingum College speech team earned first place honors in the Small School Sweepstakes division at two consecutive forensics tournaments held January 20-22 at West Chester University in West Chester, Pennsylvania. The team also ranked third among the competing Pi Kappa Delta teams, and took fifth place overall in the Open division of the competition, which hosted 11 schools and more than 200 competitors.
The following students represented Muskingum College at the two Pi Kappa Delta sponsored tournaments at West Chester University: Josh Doerschuk '09, competed in prose and poetry interpretation; David Losh '09, competed in after dinner speaking and impromptu; Eugene Saunders '06, competed in informative speaking and prose interpretation; and Kevin Triskett '07, competed in persuasive, informative and impromptu speaking.
Earning top scores at the tournament and qualifying for the National Forensics Association Tournament to be held April 14-17 in Eau Claire, Wisconsin were: Losh, sixth place in impromptu speaking; Saunders, seventh place in informative speaking; and Triskett, first place in persuasive speaking, third place in informative speaking and fifth place in impromptu speaking.
With their performance at this tournament, community service, and a qualifying grade point average, Losh and Doerschuk are eligible to be inducted into the Muskingum chapter of Pi Kappa Delta, the national forensics honorary. They will be installed at the college's Scholarship Recognition Day in April.
