Muskingum College hosts Ohio Theatre Alliance auditions January 29
The Muskingum College Department of Speech Communication and Theatre will host the Ohio Theatre Alliance (OTA) North Central Regional Auditions and Interviews on Saturday, January 29 in the Sandra Wolfe Thompson Theatre.
The auditions, which are not open to the public, will draw aspiring acting students from an area of five states contiguous to Ohio and more than 30 professional production companies from around the nation who are looking for talent.
At last year’s auditions, producers were on hand from the likes of the Actors Theatre of Louisville, renowned nationally for its annual play festivals and theatrical productions; to more commercial venues like Cedar Point Live Entertainment.
The day’s events begin with registration at 6:30 a.m. Then the actors, singers and dancers are given only 90 seconds to display their talents. Based on that audition, participants can be called back for another chance to perform or an interview with producers much later that day. An actor who auditions at 8:30 a.m. could receive a “call back” (another chance to perform and be interviewed) for very late that night.
Muskingum College Professor of Speech Communication and Theatre Dr. Jerry Martin and Associate Professor of Theatre Dr. Diane Rao are coordinating the event, and they will be assisted by students from the college. Dr. Martin said, “On the one hand, this is a really grueling day of work for the performers and producers alike, but all of that is off-set by the very exciting process and what it can lead to. Muskingum is very fortunate to host this event, and the new theatre is a very big part of why the auditions are here.”
More than 250 performers of all kinds are expected to audition.
