Six Muskingum College students to attend American Model United Nations Conference in Chicago
Seven Muskingum College students have been chosen to represent the college at the annual American Model United Nations Conference, to be held in Chicago, IL, November 20-23.
The students attending the conference are: Kolet Buenavides '07, Dean Gorsuch '05, Melanie Hilton '07, Kimberly Morrison '06, Meryl Williams '08 and John Yung '05.
The students attending the conference are members of Muskingum’s United Nations Club. For this year’s session, they have decided to represent Madagascar, and have extensively researched that country and the issues it faces, including AIDS prevention, debt relief and disarmament.
At the three-day conference, the students will participate in a wide range of activities that closely model the operation of the United Nations itself. Simulated sessions include the Security Council, an Historical Security Council (1993) and General Assembly Plenary sessions on subjects including disarmament and international security, economic and financial affairs, social, humanitarian and cultural issues and legal affairs.
The students will be advised by Assistant Professor of Political Science Dr. Michelle Boomgaard.
