The Muskingum College speech team made a strong showing at the Ohio Forensic Association (OFA) State Novice tournament held at The Ohio State University in Columbus on February 3 and 4.
The following first-year competitors represented Muskingum College at the OFA State Novice tournament at the Ohio State University: Josh Doerschuk '09 competed in prose and poetry interpretation, David Losh '09 competed in after dinner speaking, prose interpretation and impromptu speaking; and Christina Sampson '06, joining the novice team for her first forensics tournament competing at the state level, competed in poetry interpretation.
Competing in final elimination rounds, Doerschuk and Losh ranked in the top 3 percent of all Ohio first-year competitors. Doerschuk earned a fifth place in poetry interpretation and Losh earned fourth place in after dinner speaking.
In the two events with the top number of competitors, Muskingum novice Losh ranked 11th in the state in impromptu speaking and 12th overall in prose interpretation. Doerschuk ranked 10th in the state in prose interpretation.
All three students are now eligible to represent Muskingum at the state varsity tournament, to be held February 17-18 at Kent State University in Kent, Ohio.
