Faculty member receives honors at juried art competition
Muskingum College Assistant Professor of Art Ken McCollum has received the Award of Excellence for the Rosewood Art Centre’s juried competition, Earth in Balance 2005.
McCollum entered three pieces of carved ceramic work, titled Dreamboat, a porcelain form representing a human head; Waiting in the Wings, a porcelain two-piece form; and Material World, a porcelain bottle two-sided form.
The Rosewood Arts Centre, in Kettering, Ohio, is recognized throughout the state of Ohio. The 39,000-square-foot facility attracts more than 100,000 patron annually for classes, gallery exhibitions, theater performances, studio use and special events Earth in Balance 2005 was juried by David Collins of Allegheny College in Meadville, Pennsylvania.
McCollum joined the faculty at Muskingum College in 2000. He earned degrees from Phillips University, West Texas State University and Edinboro University of Pennsylvania. His most recent exhibitions have included the Earth, Water, and Fire Ceramic Art Exhibition at The Armory Gallery in Zanesville, a two-person exhibition at the Tuscarawas Art Center in New Philadelphia, the Zanesville Art Center in Zanesville, and the Bruce Gallery at Edinboro University of Pennsylvania.
His other juried awards include first place at the Art and Fine Craft of Appalachian Ohio exhibition at the Johnson Humrick House Museum in Coshocton and Best of Show in the three-dimensional category at the Zanesville Art Center. He also has been published in Clay Times magazine and Ceramics Monthly.
