Dr. Lorle Porter Named "Outstanding Board Member"
for Crossroads RC&D
FEBRUARY 10, 2004 - Dr. Lorle Porter, New Concord, was recently honored by the Crossroads Resource Conservation and Development Council, Inc., New Philadelphia, as that group's "outstanding board member of the year." The award also entitles her to life membership in the organization.
"Dr. Porter is a faithful member of the executive board of Crossroads RC&D and was instrumental in our civil war tourism initiative. Her passion for the project made her a driving force in its implementation," explained Sandy Chenal, coordinator of Crossroads.
Crossroads RC&D is a regional not-for-profit organization created by a coalition of local County Commissioners and Soil and Water Conservation Districts. Member-supported, Crossroads RC&D provides assistance to local groups in accomplishing projects. Counties served include Muskingum, Guernsey, Coshocton, Harrison, Carroll, Holmes, Jefferson, Mahoning, Stark, Trumbull and Tuscarawas.
The award was presented to Dr. Porter by Sean Logan, who represents Columbiana County on the Crossroads board. Logan is one of Dr. Porter's former students at Muskingum College where she is emeritus professor of history and regional historian in residence.
Each county has four representatives on the Crossroads board and Dr. Porter represents Muskingum County as a member-at-large.
