Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
How do I find journal articles on my research subject?
Select Databases on the top navigator found on every library page. You can find databases for a specific subject by using our Subject Guides. Contact us if you need help selecting a database.
How do I know if Muskingum has a specific periodical (magazine or journal)?
Search the journal title in the Muskingum Library catalog.
How do I get a magazine or journal article that isn't owned by Muskingum? Can I order them through OPAL or OhioLINK?
If an item is not available in full text through the databases and is not owned by Muskingum, you can order it through Interlibrary Loan (ILL). Fill out the online article request form.
We do not charge you for items if we can obtain them for free. If we are required to pay a charge to obtain the article, we will pass along that cost to you. We will always confirm your willingness to pay for an item prior to requesting it from another institution.
How long does it take to get books if I order them from OPAL or OhioLINK?
Usually 1-3 days. It depends on where the lending institution is and if you are requesting on a weekend or holiday. Most OPAL and OhioLINK members only fill requests for books once a day and the courier only comes once a day to pick up and deliver books.
If a book I want is not available from OPAL or OhioLINK, how can I get it?
You can order books not available from an OPAL or OhioLINK institution, by filling out an Interlibrary Loan (ILL) Book Request.
Where do I pick up the books I order from OPAL, OhioLINK, or Interlibrary Loan?
At the front desk when you first walk into the building.
How can I find out if the books I've ordered from OPAL or OhioLINK have arrived?
Click on the My Account link on the top navigator on any of the library's web pages. You will need your barcode number (the 14 digit number on the back of your Muskingum ID). You will receive e-mail notifying you when the book has arrived at Muskingum and is available for you to pick up at the Circulation Desk.
How do I find out if an article is available online in full-text or owned by the Library in print?
If you have the article citation (journal title, article title, volume, year, etc.) use OLinks Journal Article Lookup.
When you are searching in one of our databases, click on the Find It! icon/link. You will see a yellow box with the words "Full text of this article at..." if the article is available online. Look in the "Copies in your Library" box to see if Muskingum College owns the title in print. You may need to click on the "Search by title in the Muskingum University library catalog" link to determine if we own the title.
