Reference-Web Resources Librarian
Muskingum University Library, New Concord, OH, has an immediate opening for a Reference-Web Resources Librarian.
The person we are seeking is student-centered with a strong service orientation, motivated, energetic and committed to providing excellent library services in a collaborative and collegial setting. The Reference-Web Resources Librarian works in a highly digital library environment and must be familiar with electronic and networked information as well as traditional resources. This highly visible position works as part of an innovative team that designs, delivers and promotes all services provided by the Library. The successful candidate assists in continuing to develop a user-centered program that integrates information literacy instruction, actively promotes research support, and provides reference services to students, faculty, and other individuals affiliated with the academic programs of Muskingum University. The Reference-Web Resources Librarian is responsible for managing the Muskingum University Library webpages and serves as the campus web consultant for academic departments and other units of the University.
Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills are required. Experience with OhioLINK and Innovative Interfaces, Inc. is desirable.
The Reference-Web Resources Librarian reports to the Library Director. This is a 12 month administrative position.
Primary Responsibilities: The Reference-Web Resources Librarian implements the delivery of electronic library resources to Muskingum University students and faculty; manages and develops the Library’s website using Contribute, cascading style sheets, Dreamweaver, image editing programs and other web development tools; and, serves as campus web consultant for academic departments and other units of the University. The Reference-Web Resources Librarian serves as Muskingum University’s Lead Implementer for OhioLINK, OPAL and the local campus. Additionally, the Reference-Web Resources Librarian provides information literacy instruction to students; assists faculty with integrating library resources and instructional technologies into their courses; and, contributes to the daily operation of the Muskingum University Library.
Responsibilities include the following: participating in daily, evening and weekend reference desk coverage; First Year Seminar instruction; shared instruction of a Research Methods course; staffing KnowItNow 24x7 virtual reference; collection management including selection and de-selection; and, providing workshops and one-shot instruction. The successful candidate will work closely with faculty to create course specific active learning opportunities via in-class instruction and LibGuides for students to become self-sufficient in finding, evaluating and using information.
Additional responsibilities include:
• Taking a key role within the reference team in shaping and delivering reference and research assistance services, including in-person, mediated chat, e-mail and phone reference
• Providing course-integrated information literacy instruction services in support of all undergraduate disciplines, graduate programs and adult education programs
• Promoting library services, particularly information literacy, by cultivating relationships with
• faculty and students, and seeking new ways to serve the University
• Participating in state library consortia meetings and professional conferences.
Qualifications: An MLS/MLIS from an ALA-accredited library/information studies program or an equivalent degree is required. Coursework in teaching methods, instructional theory or instructional design is desired. Experience designing information literacy curricula and delivering group instruction in an academic library is a plus. Educational background or work experience that indicates an ability to create an engaging learning environment is preferred. Additionally, a commitment to excellence, outstanding communication and interpersonal skills are necessary. A familiarity with current library practices and software applications is desirable. Experience with OhioLINK a plus. The Muskingum University Library is a service-oriented, team-based environment.
