Walters named ESPN The Magazine Third Team Academic All-American

NEW CONCORD, OHIO - Muskingum College junior Justin Walters has been named ESPN The Magazine Third Team Academic All-American. This marks the first time in Muskingum men's track & field history that a student-athlete has garnered Academic All-American honors.

WaltersWalters, the 2007 OAC Track & Field Outdoor 3,000 meter steeplechase champion, majors in Economics and carries a 4.0 grade-point average. Competing in his first season in the steeplechase competition, Walters won the event at the OAC Championships with a career-best time of 9:32.8. Following the race, he was crowned OAC Champion in the steeplechase and was awarded All-OAC honors. Walters is a two-year letterwinner from Pickerington, Ohio.

Walters was one of only 45 male athletes selected as ESPN The Magazine Academic All-Americans in the college division which represents a broad spectrum of more than 750 colleges or universities at the NCAA II, III and NAIA levels.

The ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America teams are selected by the College Sports Information Director's Association of America (CoSIDA). To be eligible for nomination, an individual must be a starter or a key reserve with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.20. In addition, student-athletes must have completed one full academic year at their respective institutions.
