Bailey and Dobos claim OAC Indoor Championships and All-OAC honors

NEW CONCORD, OHIO, March 8, 2008 - Muskingum College freshman Demetrius Bailey and junior Deanna Dobos each claimed Ohio Athletic Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships and All-OAC honors at Otterbein College Saturday. [OAC Championship site]

Bailey set the Muskie record for the triple jump en route to capturing first place with an NCAA Championships provisional jump of 46-08.75. Bailey's mark eclipsed the previous school record of 44-09.25 set in 1987 by Ricardo Burks.

Dobos won the 400-meter dash with a time of 59.69 and finished third in the 300-meter dash with a time of 42.16. Earlier this season, Dobos set a pair of school records in the 300-meter with a time of 41.99 and the 200-meter with a time of 26.73. The prior school record in the 200 was held by Chrissy Martin (27.11/1998) and the previous mark in the 300 was held by Kaye Matthews (42.66/1989).

Several Muskie athletes competed Friday night in field events. Freshman Hannah Hilliard finished 13th in the long jump with a leap of 15-10.50, while junior Drew Untied finished ninth in the long jump with measurement of 20-11.25. Bailey and junior Kyle Waltz finished 14th (20-05.25) and 18th (20-00.25), respectively in the long jump.

Due to extreme hazardous weather conditions, Muskingum College was unable to send its entire Track & Field teams to the championships at Otterbein.

Muskingum's outdoor T&F season begins on March 22 with the Muskingum Invitational at McConagha Stadium.
