Matthews named OAC Tennis Player of the Week
NEW CONCORD, OHIO, April 6, 2010 - The Ohio Athletic Conference has announced that Muskingum junior Adrian Matthews has been named OAC Men's Tennis Player of the Week.
The award comes a week after Matthew's stellar play, which saw him post a combined 5-1 record in singles and doubles play. During his week of singles competitions, Matthews beat Franciscan's Nick Cundiff (6-0, 6-1) and Otterbein's Ryan Catanese (6-4, 6-3).
Matthews teamed up with senior Malcolm Reed to post a perfect 3-0 mark as the first doubles team. The tandem defeated Franciscan's Matthew Alexander and Chris Cooper (8-0), Otterbein's Tyler Brodhead and Ryan Catanese (8-6), and Heidelberg's
Bobby Lochotzki and Cliff Goetz (8-3). Matthews and Reed have won five straight matches and stand at 2-0 in the OAC at first doubles.
For the year Matthews is 3-4 in singles play and 5-2 in doubles action.
