Softball coaching staff named Central Regional Coaching Staff of the Year
NEW CONCORD, OHIO, June 29, 2006 -
The National Fastpitch Coaches Association has announced that Muskingum College Head Softball Head Coach Donna Newberry and assistant softball coaches Erin Zupko and Jennifer Segner-Filtz have been named the 2006 Central Regional Softball Coaching Staff of the Year.
Under the guidance of Newberry, Zupko and Segner-Filtz, the Muskies (46-6) won their ninth straight Ohio Athletic Conference regular season and tournament titles and seventh NCAA Regional Championship. Muskingum advanced to its fourth straight World Series
and finished third, which marked its second-best finish in the history of the program. Muskingum won the National Championship in 2001.
As a team, Muskingum ended the year ranked second in Division III in doubles per game (2.19), third in winning percentage (.885), sixth in fielding percentage (.971), seventh in batting average (.354) and 11th in slugging percentage (.512).
