Davies named First Team Academic All-American
NEW CONCORD, OHIO, December 3, 2003 - Muskingum College senior midfielder Cheryl Davies (Salem/West Branch) became the first Lady Muskie to be named All-American in the history of the women's soccer program when she was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-America First Team.
Davies, a Business/Public Accounting major, carries a 3.94 grade-point-average and started 18 games for the Fighting Muskies. On the year, Davies led the team in goals scored (9), assists (4) and points (22). Davies ended her Muskingum career ranked second all-time in goals (26), points (68) and assists (16).
Davies was previously named to the Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) First Team, All-OAC Second Team and Academic All-District IV First Team.
The Academic All-America Teams program honors 816 male and female student-athletes annually who have succeeded at the highest level on the playing field and in the classroom. To be eligible, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.20 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.
