Muskingum jumps four spots in national poll after beating Wilmington
NEW CONCORD, OHIO, October 2, 2011 - The Muskingum University football team, off to its best start since 1996, jumped four spots to 36th in the nation in the latest D3Football.com Poll and appeared for the first time this season in the American Football Coaches Association poll. Muskingum received 16 points in the week five D3Football.com Poll - an increase of nine points from the previous week. The Muskies also received 11 points in the AFCA Division III Coaches' poll to garner a ranking of 41st in the nation. This marks the Muskies' highest ranking since 1995. In 1995, Muskingum was ranked as high as 29th in the Don Hansen National Weekly Football Gazette Top 50 Poll.
The Muskies notched their fourth straight win after spoiling Wilmington College's Homecoming last Saturday with a 14-3 win at Williams Stadium. The win moved Muskingum to 4-0 overall and 3-0 in the Ohio Athletic Conference. The Muskies are currently tied for first place in the league with the University of Mount Union. The last time Muskingum started a season at 4-0 was in 1996.
Muskingum hits the field next when it hosts Heidelberg University on Saturday, October 8. Game time is slated for 1:30 p.m.
