Junker headlines All-Ohio Athletic Conference selections
NEW CONCORD, OHIO, November 21, 2006 - Muskingum College senior linebacker Jack Junker made college history on Tuesday when he became the first-ever Muskie to be named the Bill Edwards Most Outstanding Linebacker in the Ohio Athletic Conference. The announcement came from the league office as part of the annual honoring of the All-OAC football selections, which included Junker being named first team All-OAC and junior linebacker Nathan Hedge and sophomore wide receiver Jack Murray being named Honorable Mention All-OAC.
Junker led the Black & Magenta and was fourth in the conference in tackles with 84. He garnered National Team of the Week honors for his career-high 22-tackle performance against Otterbein College. Additionally, Junker logged 8.5 tackles for loss for 25 yards, forced two fumbles and recovered two fumbles, tallied one sack for three yards and broke-up one pass. Junker ended his Muskie career with 250 tackles and 21 stops for a loss. He is a two-time all-league honoree.
“Jack being named Most Outstanding Linebacker in the OAC is a tremendous honor for him and the Muskingum football program," said former Head Coach Jeff Heacock,
who has been promoted to Assistant Vice President of Student Affairs for External Relations. "He's a tough competitor and its nice to see the league recognize Jack for all that he has accomplished throughout his Muskie career."
Hedge was sixth on the squad with 42 stops. He also recorded 5.5 tackles for loss for 25 yards and led the team with two blocked kicks. Hedge forced one fumble and recovered one, while recording an assisted sack. Murray logged a team-high 36 receptions for 426 yards and four touchdowns. Murray averaged 42.6 yards per game receiving and led the Fish with a 10.6 yards per punt return average.
