Jefferis named OAC Wrestler of the Week
NEW CONCORD, OHIO, January 28, 2008 - The Ohio Athletic Conference has announced that Muskingum College heavyweight freshman wrestler Paul Jefferis has been named OAC Wrestler of the Week.
Jefferis capped off an impressive week on the mat with a perfect 5-0 record, which included three pins and three wins that clinched a match victory for Muskingum.
Jefferis started the week with an 8-3 overtime win over Washington & Jefferson College's Josh Brewer. The thrilling win secured the Muskies' 22-18 win over the Presidents. At the Thiel College Duals, Jefferis led the Muskies with three falls and one technical fall. Against R.I.T., he recorded a fall at the 4:16 mark against Adam Abdelhamed and added a fall against West Virginia Tech University at the 2:12 mark.
Against Thiel, Muskingum rallied from a 22-12 deficit in the final two matches to stun the host Tomcats. Jefferis completed the comeback with a dominating effort that resulted in a pin just 35 seconds into his match to clinch the win for the Fish.
Muskingum mounted a comeback once again against Mercyhurst North East. The Fish trailed 20-16 heading into the final bout before Jefferis secured a 22-6 technical fall to lift the Muskies to a stunning 21-20 win.
Jefferis triumphs on the mat helped lead Muskingum to a 5-0 record last week and a season-high five match winning streak.
