Boda named OAC Rookie of the Year as Muskies garner All-OAC honors
NEW CONCORD, OHIO, May 4, 2008 - Following its 11th straight Ohio Athletic Conference regular season championship, the 11th-ranked Muskingum College softball team was honored by having freshman first baseman Mary Margaret Boda named the Bob Jordan OAC Rookie of the Year in addition to having six players named All-Ohio Athletic Conference.
Boda batted .438 with 53 hits, 36 runs, 32 RBI's 12 doubles and six home runs. She logged a .686 slugging percentage and a .524 on-base percentage. This is the third time that a Fighting Muskie has won the OAC Rookie award (Erica Hoyt - 2003, Katie Herbst - 2002).
Boda, senior catcher Kari Hoying and junior pitcher Amy Mattin where all named First Team All-OAC, while senior shortstop Jamie Echelberger and junior designated player Randi Dance were named Second Team All-OAC and senior third baseman Heather Fields garnered All-OAC Honorable Mention accolades.
Hoying is a four-time All-OAC First Team honoree. She hit .404 with 55 hits, 30 runs, 29 RBI's, 15 doubles, four home runs and two triples. Mattin posted a 26-5 record with a 1.48 ERA in 208.1 innings of work. Matting recorded 146 strikeouts, 21 complete games and seven shutouts.
Echelberger hit .317 with 39 hits, 25 runs, 24 RBI's, 11 doubles and two home runs. Dance, a three-time All-OAC honoree, batted .268 with 30 hits, 21 RBI's, 20 runs, nine doubles, one triple and one home run.
Fields registered a .358 batting average with 48 hits, 27 RBI's, 25 runs, 10 doubles, five home runs and one triple.
The All-OAC Softball Team is selected by the League coaches.
