Tournament preview

#1 seed - Muskingum College of New Concord, Ohio, is 34-9 overall and won its 10th straight Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) Tournament last week. The Muskies are making their 10th straight NCAA appearance and 17th in the past 23 years. The Muskies are ranked ninth in the latest NFCA Division III Top 25.

#2 seed - DePauw University of Greencastle, Indiana, is making its first-ever NCAA appearance. The Tigers (32-5) compete in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference and received an at-large bid. The 32 wins by DePauw are a school record.

#3 seed - Alma College of Alma, Michigan, enters the regional tournament with a 29-11 overall record. The Scot's were the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association's co-champion and received the automatic bid. Alma is making its 12th NCAA appearance.

#4 seed - Anderson University of Anderson, Indiana, enters the regional tournament with a 23-12 overall record. The Ravens are making their third NCAA appearance after winning the Heartland Collegiate Conference championship.

#5 seed - Bridgewater College of Bridgewater, Virginia, is making its first-ever appearance in the NCAA Tournament. The Eagles, 36-6 overall, play in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference and received an at-large bid.

#6 seed - Maryville College of Maryville, Tennessee, is making its second appearance in the NCAA Tournament. The Scots, 23-11 overall, play in the Great South Athletic Conference and received an at-large bid.

#7 seed - Allegheny College of Meadville, Pennsylvania, enters the regional tournament with an 18-17 overall record. The Gators are making their 15th NCAA appearance after winning the North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament championship.

#8 seed - Hood College of Frederick, Maryland, is making its second appearance in the NCAA Tournament. The Blazers, 14-19 overall, play in the Atlantic Women's Colleges Conference and received an automatic bid for winning the conference championship.

INDIANAPOLIS -- The NCAA Division III Softball Committee has announced the 59 teams that will compete in the Division III Softball Championship.

Seven teams will compete at five first-round sites and eight teams will compete at three first-round sites for a total of eight first-round sites. All first-rounds will use a double-elimination format.

The seven-team first rounds will be held May 10-13 on the campuses of competing institutions. The eight-team first rounds will be held May 10-14 on the campuses of competing institutions. The finals, hosted by the City of Salem, Virginia and Old Dominion Athletic Conference, will be held May 18-22 at the James I. Moyer Sports Complex in Salem, Virginia.

Thirty-six conferences have been granted automatic qualification and six independents were selected for the 2007 championship. The 17 remaining teams were selected on an at-large basis from automatic qualifying conferences and the remaining independent institutions.
