Whiteman ends summer campaign with Atlantic Collegiate Baseball League hitting title

NEW CONCORD, OHIO, August 20, 2008 - Muskingum College junior All-American and Ohio Athletic Conference Player of the Year catcher Brock Whiteman concluded his outstanding summer baseball campaign in the Atlantic Collegiate Baseball League by leading the league in hitting.

Whiteman, who played for the Peekskill Robins (New York), led the ACBL with a .372 batting average and ranked in the top five in the league in hits (48), RBI’s (24), total bases and doubles (13).

"Brock’s raw numbers are impressive for a wood bat college summer league that features NCAA Division I pitching," said Muskingum Head Baseball Coach Gregg Thompson.

Whiteman was honored for his stellar play by being selected to start in the 42nd Annual ACBL All-Star game that was held at St. John's University in July. The game was watched by over 20 Major League Baseball professional scouts.

"Brock's play is a tribute to the brand of baseball played in the OAC," stated Thompson. "This was Brock's first stepping stone to an opportunity to play baseball at the next level. He proved that he is capable of playing at an all-star level in a highly-respected league and deserves the chance to take the next step."

Fellow All-OAC Muskie Wes Carder also played for Peekskill. The junior shortstop was one of the team leaders for the Robins in batting average and stolen bases.

"Brock and Wes represented Muskingum College, the Ohio Athletic Conference and NCAA Division III extremely well," added Thompson.

The Robins recruit college all-stars from schools around the nation and over the last four Major League Baseball drafts have had 33 players recruited and signed to play baseball professionally.
