Whiteman tabbed as D3baseball.com Preseason All-American
NEW CONCORD, OHIO, January 10, 2009 - Muskingum College junior All-American and Ohio Athletic Conference Player of the Year catcher Brock Whiteman has been named by D3baseball.com as a 2009 Second Team Preseason All-American.
Whiteman, who signed to play for the Fayetteville Swampdogs (N.C.) of the Coastal Plain League in the summer of 2009, played for the Peekskill Robins (N.Y.) of the Atlantic Collegiate Baseball League this past summer and led the league with a .372 batting average and ranked in the top five in the league in hits (48), RBI’s (24), total bases and doubles (13). He was honored for his stellar play by being selected to start in the 42nd Annual ACBL All-Star game that was held at St. John's University in July.
In 2008, Whiteman became the first-ever Muskie to receive the Jack Rafeld Player of the Year Award and ranked 17th in NCAA Division III in doubles, 21st in total bases, 32nd in slugging percentage and 36th in batting average. He led the Muskies in batting average (.450), hits (67), doubles (19), triples (2), home runs (9), RBI’s (51) and total bases (117). Whiteman logged 18 multiple hit games, 11 multiple RBI games and registered a team-high 14-game hitting streak during the year.
He was honored for his play last season by garnering
Third Team Rawlings/American Baseball Coaches Association All-American accolades and Third Team All-American D3baseball.com accolades. Whiteman was the second Muskie in Muskingum baseball history to receive All-American honors (Gary Thompson - 1992 - Third Team).
The Muskies open the season at the Snowbird Baseball Classic in Port Charlotte, Florida, on Sunday, March 1.
