Carder named best defensive shortstop in the nation
NEW CONCORD, OHIO, May 28, 2010 - Muskingum University senior shortstop Wes Carder was named the best defensive shortstop in the country by the
American Baseball Coaches Association. Carder was one of nine student-athletes in the nation to earn the prestigious
Rawlings NCAA Division III Gold Glove Award.
Carder, who ended his Muskie career as a four-year All-Ohio Athletic Conference honoree, becomes the first-ever Muskie to earn the Rawlings Gold Glove Award. He logged an impressive .967 fielding percentage for the season and led the team in at-bats (151), runs scored (46), stolen bases (14) and sacrifice hits (5). Carder hit .325 with 14 RBIs, nine doubles, one triple and one home run. He ranks first all-time at Muskingum in runs scored (161), fourth in walks (82), fifth in hits (195), fifth in triples (7) and eighth in career batting average (.368).
Muskingum, under the guidance of Head Coach Gregg Thompson, ended the year 23-18 overall and advanced to the OAC Tournament for the first time since 1994.
