Whiteman, Carder, Spitzer, Hardcastle and Patterson named All-OAC

NEW CONCORD, OHIO, May 17, 2010 - The Muskingum University baseball team was honored by the Ohio Athletic Conference by having senior catcher Brock Whiteman named First Team All-OAC, while senior shortstop Wes Carder, junior outfielder Erik Spitzer, junior second baseman Tyler Hardcastle and senior pitcher Jared Patterson all garnered All-OAC Second Team accolades.

Whiteman, a four-year All-OAC honoree, hit .383 on the year with a team-best 12 home runs, 46 RBIs and .705 slugging percentage. He tied for the team lead with 46 runs scored, belted 12 doubles and recorded a .475 on-base percentage. Whiteman ends his storied Muskingum career ranked first in career hits with 222, second in career RBIs with 176, second in career home runs with 33, second in career doubles with 47, second in career at-bats with 572, third in career batting average (.388), third in runs scored (144) and third in triples (9).

Carder ends his career as a four-year All-OAC honoree. He led the team in at-bats (151), runs scored (46), stolen bases (14) and sacrifice hits (5). Carder hit .325 with 14 RBIs, nine doubles, one triple and one home run. He ranks first all-time at Muskingum in runs scored (161), fourth in walks (82), fifth in hits (195), fifth in triples (7) and eighth in career batting average (.368).

Spitzer, who led the squad with a career-high batting average of .403, posted career-best numbers in hits (60), runs (32), doubles (18), home runs (4) and at-bats (149). He logged a .604 slugging percentage and .477 on-base percentage and recorded 18 multiple hit games and nine multiple RBI games.

Hardcastle, a two-time all-league selection, recorded career-best numbers in batting average (.347), hits (50), doubles (14) and RBIs (33). He smacked two home runs and one triple to go along with his .500 slugging percentage and .419 on-base percentage. Hardcastle had 13 multiple RBI games 10 multiple RBI games.

Patterson led the team with six wins, 67.1 innings pitched and 56 strikeouts. His six victories rank 10th all-time for a single season and his 56 strikeouts rank ninth for a single season.
