Text : McClave, Benson and Sincich; A First Course in Business Statistics, Sixth Edition. (We will cover selected topics from all chapters of the book.)
Each student will also be required to have a 3.5" floppy disk. We will be doing some computer work and you will need to save some of the work you are doing.
Welcome to Statistics. Each student is expected to have an appropriate background in Algebra (Math 090 or High school equivalent) . It might seem overwhelming at first don't become discouraged, hang in there and make sure you communicate with me. Stay caught up with the course both in terms of homework and reading.
Grades for this class will depend on your performance on tests, quizzes, homework . The breakdown of points is as follows:
Test 1 (Friday January 30th) 100 Test 2 (Friday February 27th) 100 Test 3 (Friday March 13th) 100 Test 4 (Wednesday April 8th) 100 Final (Saturday May 2nd) 200 Homework 100 Lab 50 Quizzes 100 Total 850
This provides the instructor with a framework for grades. Specific grades are subject to individual interpretation by the instructor. Roughly speaking 90% or higher is in the A range, 80% a B, 70% a C , 60% a D. Below 60% will definitely be an F.
Exams-Except for unforeseen illness and emergencies I will expect prior notification for any missed exams.
Quizzes-There are two types short and long. The short ones are taken either at the beginning or end of class. The long ones I will pass out one day and are due the next day the class meets. I will give more quizzes than I will count, your lowest scores or missed quizzes will be dropped.
Homework- Assignments must be completed neatly and on time. Sloppy and unorganized homework will not be accepted and will receive no credit. I will not grade every problem, but select a few problems I feel are more important and grade those. I will try to give a weekly list of problems to do, but for flexibility sometimes I will give the assignment on a daily basis. Because of time considerations we will not be able to go over every homework problem in class so be sure to keep track of the problems that give you difficulty and ask me in my office about them.
Attendance-Regular attendance is expected.
GOOD LUCK!! ENJOY THE SEMESTER!!!!
